UNICEF

For more than 60 years UNICEF has been fighting for the rights of all children throughout the world, freeing them from exploitation, violence and abuse.

UNICEF does amazing work in over 190 countries worldwide working with families, communities and governments to help every child reach their full potential

VALUES AND BELIEFS (Taken from website)

Our work is underpinned by a shared commitment to UNICEF’s vision, mission and beliefs, and to our organisational values. These are to be child focused, effective, cooperative, challenging, rights based and to act with integrity.

We believe that every child has the right to the best possible start in life. It is wrong for children to die needlessly; it is imperative to prevent their unnecessary deaths. Every child has the right to the highest standards of health and education. It is imperative to work to attain these standards.

Every child possesses rights inherent equal to every other child’s. It is imperative to defend all children from violence, exploitation and discrimination. To protect the rights of every child, and invest in her or his well-being, is the surest way to end poverty and to build peace and security in the world.

It is possible to give every child a good start in life. The world can, if it chooses, ensure that every child grows and develops to their full, human potential. Children are citizens of the communities and the societies that they live in. Their voices should be heard and their opinions heeded by all.

I encourage you to check the website and donate to help with the current famine in Somalia where approximately Two million children in East Africa are malnourished and need urgent help.

Thank You

ThePlutoAppeal

ThePlutoAppeal is a campaign to buy a surgical robot named Pluto for Chelsea and Westminster Hospital. This will enable the surgeons to perform intricate surgery on babies and children with more precision, better recovery times, shorter hospital stays and smaller scars.

The campaign is based on The Million Dollar Homepage, a website created by student Alex Tew in 2006, when he divided a homepage into a million pixels and sold to advertisers.  Pluto will be divided in the same way; each piece of the robot costs £1, and as more pieces are bought Pluto will begin to come alive in colour. If all the pieces of Pluto are bought we will raise over £1 million  towards the cost of the robot.

The campaign combines two of the best things in the world - Saving babies and robots. So check out the site and buy a piece of Pluto.
